Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarships and volunteering for the community. The first time the Selmons were born by Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon. They lived on an agricultural property near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. Also, he was one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. They also won two national championships. Third scholarship he was named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service was ten-hours per week in volunteer work during college. Following college, he relocated into Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro three times. Then he started his career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 outstanding youngsters across the country. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
